El Mercado Restaurants started on the front porch of our south Austin location twenty years ago, serving breakfast tacos at a Mexican food market. The market’s gone, but the tacos stayed. Today you can enjoy El Mercado’s traditional Tex-Mex in four locations: the original at 1302 South First Street, the North location at 7414 Burnet Road, the Uptown location at 17th and Lavaca, and the newest location on U.S. 183 North, at Lake Creek Parkway. You can still find the breakfast tacos on Saturday and Sunday morning, but don’t forget to try our enchiladas with five different sauces, or our fajitas, served fresh and sizzling on a skillet at your table. Our mixed grill fajitas are a favorite, with grilled shrimp, sausage, and beef and chicken fajita meat, served with fresh tortillas and our spicy charro beans. It all goes great with our El Mercado margaritas, made from our secret house recipe, and served up in regular and grandote sizes.
